Description
Travel back in time with this sweet old acoustic guitar. With a serial number of 93,936 (on back of headstock and inside label), Guild built it in 1973 at its old Elizabeth, New Jersey factory. It's a model D-35, also known as the Bluegrass model. I'm a big fan of Guild guitars. They're up there with Gibsons, for my money. The guitar sounds great. It's got some fret and fretboard wear in the first three frets, but not a whole lot. Ordinary age and play wear, like lacquer crazing, buckle rash on the back, the finish on the middle back upper bout is worn through to the wood. There's a crack on the back bass side upper bout; the best I can tell is that it's a deep lacquer crack, not a wood crack. There's a second crack on the top bass side lower bout; the best I can tell is that it's also a deep lacquer crack, not a wood crack. There's a couple chips of lacquer missing off the bass side lower bout.
12th fret action is 4/32" bass side and 3/32" treble side. The truss rod works and is tightened basically all the way down. The saddle has been taken down as far as it reasonably can. The back side of the bridge is lifted something less than 1/64". At some point, the bridge should be taken off and reset. I've decided to sell it as is.
It comes in an unmarked vintage hard case that may or may not be original. The case is worn and tattered on the outside, but fully functional. The case handle, hinges, and latches all work properly.
It's a classic old guitar. It sounds great as it is, but could use some TLC on the bridge some day.
