ORIGINAL M. NUNES & SONS UKULELE WITH FELT CASE
I bought this at an estate auction (along with another extremely rare, from the same era, Thos. E. Wilson Ashland uke up for sale currently-check my other items). This uke is in as-found condition with 1 string loose.
    Markings:
    M. Nunes Inventor 1879 Hawaii coat of arms decal on headstock. Inside Honolulu Ad club Tabu Stamp Made in Hawaii.
Interior label reads: "Made expressly for  Frank J. Hart Southern California Music Company 332-334 South Broadway, Los Angeles by M. Nunes and Sons, Inventor of the Ukulele and Taro, Patch Fiddles in Honolulu in 1879. Manufacturers of Stringed Instruments, Guaranteed Kapiolani Bldg., Alakea St., Honolulu T.H."
The back has a bowed slightly concave shape. There are 12 frets ending at the body. The wood on the back comes up and over over the heel of the neck as one piece.
Total length (from point at center of headstock to bottom) 20 15/16"; body 9 1/4"; upper bout 5"; lower bout 6"; depth 1 13/16" (at top of body) & 2 5/16" (at bottom-lower bout); sound hole 1 3/4"; fingerboard including nut to body is 6 3/4"; nut 1 5/16". There is what appears to be an older repair on back upper body left (2 small cracks that ran into each other) and there is fresh non repaired crack along one side. The back is separated slightly from the side at bottom. The bridge may or may not have been reglued at some point but it seems affixed very good. The nut looks excellent. I believe all the parts are original (except strings). The felt case has some wear with small holes.
There are 62 pictures to look through.
    Selling as is.
    Thanks!
    GREAT ITEM, GREAT COLLECTIBLE!
