Franklin Mint Mariko Japanese Bride Doll, Heirloom Geisha Collection, 20.5” Tall
This very lovely vintage porcelain Geisha Doll dates from the late 1970’s and is part of the Franklin Mint Heirloom Geisha Collection. The doll is Mariko, the Japanese Bride Doll. She is richly dressed in red and gold brocade and satin. Her red satin skirt is topped with a traditional kimono of woven metallic gold threads with a red pattern. The sleeves of the kimono have a red and gold chrysanthemum pattern. Her kimono is held round the waist by a checkered pattern obi of gold and red and tied in the rear with a huge double bow. The geisha’s face is exquisitely hand-painted and shows the delicate calm, restrained demeanor of the geisha. Her wig is beautifully coiffed and highlighted with 2 gold metal hair ornaments (kanzashi) with dangling ornament. She also wears a gold pin with 4 discs suspended by gold chains. She stands 20.5” tall and with the base 23” tall. Her wooden base is 11” by 8 ½”.
The doll is in very good pre-owned condition with very few signs of wear, except for a few minor scratches on the wooden base. Please examine all the photos for a more complete description of the geisha and her condition.
