Description
The imperial Glass Co of Bellaire, Ohio, was founded by J N Vance in 1901. Of the numerous lines of glass produced, carnival glass became one of the most popular during the first two decades of the 20th century. The company designed many original molds, one being the open rose pattern. It sports very bold and detailed roses throughout the pattern usually on both the inside and exterior. The company produced this pattern in several different colors one being a rich purple hue on which a chemical was sprayed and then the piece re-fired to create the rainbow iridescent effect. The deep ruffling effect creates a fantastic look coupled with the rich rainbow iridescence. I will mention that in the 1970s, the owner of the company at this time re-introduced carnival glass in this pattern, all these pieces were marked with the “I” over “G” logo; this example has no marks and would be an original from early 20th century. The bowl stands 3 3/8” at the tallest and ranges from just under 7” to almost 9 1/2” across the top depended on where measurements are taken. The base spans 3 3/8” diameter. I have looked the item over thoroughly and can find no chips, cracks, damage or repairs. Iridescence intact with nowhere visible in the pattern. I did feel one tiny area of roughness on the rim. Under magnification, I determined it to be manufacture a seam flaw and not post factory damage. A striking example of early carnival glass. Please view all pictures as they are considered part of the description. Please check back to my listings often as I will be posting numerous fine examples of glass, pottery and porcelain in the near future.
Thank you.
