Description
A vintage Ichimatsu Ningyo Doll with an exquisitely detailed multi-layered graduated furisode silk kimono featuring delicate yellow, purple, red and orange flowers. Her obi (belt) has matching under sashes with a butterfly bow in the back. Her sode (sleeve) is long indicating an unmarried young girl. She also has a obijime (a central cord that ties around the front of the obi) and obiage (obi scarf around the top of the obi) to help hold the rear obi knot in place. There is a small purse that is tucked at the top of the obiage and a fan tucked under the obijime (cord). She wears traditional Japanese white tabi toe socks on her feet. The doll's black straight hair is cut and combed in the fashion of the Taisho era (1912-1924), and stands on a wooden lacquered base.
Her face is lovely - she has hand painted eyebrows, lips, and eye lashes. Her eyes are very dark brown glass and inset.
The identification wood sign says she is a Ichimatsu Ningyo; it notes the artists name who made the face for the doll was Kumakura Seisho; and the person who made the kimono was Keiho Saku (see photos for more info). She is most likely circa late 1970’s to the 1980’s.
A freshly made-to-ordered doll of this quality today would cost over ,000.
Excellent to mint condition – never played with, only displayed. Has been in storage for many years. No rips, tears, frays or fading to the kimono or any part of the doll.
Size: Measures appx. 18 inches tall (45.72 cm), 12 ½ inches wide (31.75 cm). The base is 9 ½ inches x 6 inches.
