    Description

NAME: Japanese Modern Wooden Creative Kokeshi Doll          (#73392)
    MAKER:  Inosuke Kobayashi
SIZE:  Approx 14" tall, 5.25" diameter at largest point, weight  5 lbs, 5 oz
CONDITION:  Very good condition with a few minor scratches here and there. She does have drips of varnish toward the top of her head (last picture).  Over time this ages, turns yellow and is more noticeable.  I have seen this many times on Kobayashi's dolls.
NOTES: Inosuke Kobayashi was born in 1931 and has passed.  Multi prize winner including the coveted Prime Minister award in 1979. My information only goes to 1983.
There is a similar version of this doll where the hair is parted in the middle and the Kimono has a bit more reds.  This one almost appears to be a younger female because of her bangs.  The design is done by the burnt wood technique and has multiple different designs.

A word about names: In Japan, the surname is first, followed by the given name. In English, it's reverse, which is what I use, given name followed by the surname. When in Rome...
A word about KyotoTraditions: I have been selling Japanese antiques and collectibles since 1994 in a shop (1990's), online (2006-current) with the same name and off and on through Ebay (July 2003).  My inventory came directly from Japan.
The site has age issues and is not functioning very well.  I can be readily contacted through Ebay.
