Description
It's a Kamaka! Beautiful workmanship, light feel, sweet and warm sound. The white label places this uke from 1969 to 1977 (see Dating Your Uke page at the Kamaka site).Imperfections are (1) shallow "belt rash" on back (pics 8,9); (2) minor pitting on the white label (zoom into pic 6, though hard to see in the bright light); (3) small mark or ding on sound board (highlighted in pic 7).
Purchased ~10 years ago. A year later I had the luthier at Sylvan Music (in Santa Cruz) repair a ~2.5" separation between the top and sides. (Pic 10. The separation was about 1" to the right of where the sides join [looking at old email to Kamaka].)
I hope that you will also appreciate the sound, workmanship, and history of the uke, and play it often. Thanks for looking, and questions welcome.
Below are a few measurements taken with a metric ruler:
1. Action at the 12th fret is 3 mm. (action = distance between the top of the fret wire and the bottom of the string)
2. Action at the 5th fret is 2 mm.
3. Amount of saddle above the slot in the bridge is 3 mm. I.e. you could file down at most 3 mm. Then you would be at the wood of the slot. (But see #2 for why you wouldn't take that much off:)
Short sound clip follows, tuned down to F, A#, D, G. Strings are old (and I'm rusty!) but should give you an idea.
