Although this kokeshi doll is a Tokarita type, it was sold in Noboribetsu, Hokkaido! Read the text that follows for the mystery.
Made in 1977.
There are very small scratches.Relatively good condition.
Very rare Kokeshi.

He was born on February 25, 1897, to the seventh son of Torajisa Sato in Togatta, Miyagi Prefecture.
After graduating from Jinjo Elementary School, he learned wood carving from his father, Torajiji, when he was 13 years old in 1918.
At the Kitaoka Woodworks at that time, most of the products were wooden trays and tea bowls.
Kokeshi dolls were made by Masakichi and Eiji, who is one year younger.
In 1933, he quit Kitaoka Woodworking and temporarily left Togatta.
And he made a wooden tube at "Hiroeya" in Yamagata prefecture.
In 1934, he returned to Togatta and worked again at Kitaoka Woodworks.
In 1945, he became a craftsman at the Sakai miscellaneous goods Kiji store in Nakanosawa, where he made kokeshi dolls.
In 1938, he moved to Noboribetsu, Hokkaido, where he worked as a craftsman at a lacquer woodworking factory. He made kokeshi dolls, tea canisters and toys.
He became independent in January 1945 and opened the Sato woodworking factory, but closed in August of the same year.
Again he worked at a lacquer woodworking factory.
In 1945, he went to Manchuria, China as a soldier. After returning to Japan, he worked at the Miwa Woodworking Factory.
In 1945, he was adopted by the Ohara family and entered the marriage, and changed to Ohara's family name. He set up his home in front of Noboribetsu station and reopened the store. After that, he continued to make kokeshi dolls and wooden toys as souvenirs of Noboribetsu for a long time.
He died of emphysema at the Noboribetsu branch of Hokkaido University Hospital in 1982, and he is 73 years old.
