Vintage 1930's Pre-Gibson Epiphone flat-top Model 0 Acoustic Guitar -- Super Rare, Very Good /Excellent Condition w NOC!
An amazingly preserved Epiphone Acoustic parlor guitar. One of the original line of flattops going back to the golden age of acoustic guitars in the 1930s. This model of smaller "parlor" or "blues box" style acoustic guitar was favored by blues players of all eras for its compressed, woody tonal quality, short scale, and comfortable weight which makes it ideal for fingerpicking or the bark of a bottle neck slide.
Pre-Gibson Epiphone flat-top guitars are often described as “rare as hen’s teeth.” The numbered series preceded the Recording series which had model letters A-D. This series received numbers 0-4.
This Model 0 is constructed of solid Mahogany for the top, back, sides and neck while the fretboard and bridge are Rosewood. The bracing pattern is an incredibly light weight, single tone bar X pattern. The neck joins the body at 13th fret and the original tuners have the cogs above the shaft- both common features in a time period that was ushering in the golden age of guitar manufacturing.
The very light build results in a very lively and loud box that is just perfect for the fingerstyle blues that I like to play (think Mississippi John Hurt). It would originally have had a long, triangular shaped pickguard.
Year: 1930's
Model: Model “0”
Serial: #561
Finish: Natural
Case: Non original
Weight:
Condition: 9/10 Overall good condition -- Devoid of chips or dings. Loads of fret life left, structurally sound(no pun intended), straight "V" shaped neck.
All Original Waverly Tuers and Buttons!
Modifications & Repairs: Pick guard missing - bridge pins were replaced - nut was cut & raised, professionally set up. It would possibly benefit from another neck reset or work on the bridge plate to account for the slight belly in the top. Even so, the current setup is a joy to play and the tone is among the finest for fingerstyle guitars that I’ve ever played.
Comments: Incredibly rare item! These do not come on the market & are extremely difficult to find. Light weight, all mahogany instrument projects with a rounded, mellow tone & is a finger picker's dream axe. A blues machine! From Ace's Private Collection.
CONDITION:
Guitar is in great condition, in our opinion. This guitar was given a pro-setup by our luthier but did not require any repairs. If you look at our pictures, you will see there are minimal scratches, scuffs, or blemishes on the instrument (which is amazing considering the age of this guitar).
DIMENSIONS:
Guitar is approximately 39" long x 13 5/8" wide x 3 3/4" deep; neck is 17 3/4" long x 1 3/4" wide at the 1st fret, 2 1/8" wide at the 12th fret, & 2 1/4" wide at the 17th fret. The nut width is 1 3/4".
Guitar weighs in at a very light 3 lbs, 2 oz.
