    Description

    Up for sale is a Washburn Superb archtop acoustic guitar Model 5248. I believe this guitar was made by Gibson for the Tonk Brothers Co. in the late 1930's and sold under the Washburn name. The guitar has seen some wear over the years including a split in the headstock and some missing wood around the Washburn logo. One side of tuners is not original and the G string tuner tab has broken off and will need to be replaced to tune the guitar properly.  Also, all the mother of pearl inlays have come off the fretboard except for one very small piece. The frets have wear, there are grooves in the fretboard from years of playing and there are nicks and scratches all over the body as you can see from the attached photographs.  I cleaned all the dirt off the fretboard and oiled it, restrung the guitar and was surprised by how nice it played for its age.  There is buzzing on the lower strings in the middle of the fretboard but the guitar is definitely playable and the 80 year old wood sounds amazing. The guitar will need some work and could use some humidity but I do not believe they there are too many more examples of this model around, it seems to be very rare.  Included with your purchase is only the guitar and Epiphone none original case you see in the photos above, the original pick guard is missing and not included.
