Vintage Sock Boy Doll, Grandma Ethel, Mason MI, Homespun, Ticking, Embroidery. I believe this doll may date to the 1940's. I found it when going through some items of my grandmother, who passed in 2001 at the age of 84. Packed along with the doll was a letter describing it and how it was made. Grandma Ethel was from Mason, Michigan and she called this particular doll, Jim Bob. The overalls appear to be a navy blue and white ticking fabric. There are some minimal discolorations on the ticking, so I think they probably made it out of fabric that had been used for other things. The shirt appears to be of a vintage cotton. The hands, head and feet are the sock material. The hair is brown yarn. The face is embroidered, eyebrows, eyes, nose, mouth and ears, and appears to be "rouged" for a more realistic appearance. There are felt bottoms to the feet. Due to the whiteness of the face, hands and feet, it doesn't appear that this doll was every played with. The doll measures 16" tall and with his arms at his sides, 6.5" wide. The documentation letter will also accompany the doll. This item comes from a smoke-free home.
