VTG Japanese SOSAKU KOKESHI Wooden DOLL OKAPPI STAMPED Handcrafted EUC

Description

With her joyful expression, adorable okappi hairstyle and dainty parasol, this almost 6" kokeshi embodies the folkloric charm of the classic Japanese figurines.
The bold, graphic simplicity of the painting indicates she is a sosaku ( " creative") kokechi, likely done at the end of the peak sosaku period, during the 1970s. The daisies that adorn her parasol and hair, as well as the plum blossoms on her bright coral kimono, suggest she symbolizes the season of Spring.
Masterfully crafted of mizuki ( Japanese dogwood), parts of her are done so you can see the grain. Importantly, tradition held that kokeshi retained the natural and spiritual properties of the wood from which she is carved.
Expressive, authentic doll is in EUC with very minor scratching on her umbrella, as shown in the photos.
